Relay at CISM is over and we finished one place better than last year. Not a huge increase, as we were on place 15 last time. I ran the first leg, had a good beginning (or shorter forking ;) but made two small mistakes, so that some runners overtook me and I was back in a huge group of 12 runners, from place 3 to 14. The forest was same wet as yesterday and some marshes introduced to swim ;)
I changed over to Markus on palce 13. After his and Warti’s run we finished on place 14, losing a...

Place 26 was the result of yesterday's long distance. Technically, I did something too much zick zack and missed control 17 for nearly a minute (the whole mini-valley was green which confused me a little bit). But physically, it felt better than at WOC long quali and relay, so I hope that I made some progress during the last days and weeks since my injury.
I really enjoyed this long distance, especially the wet passages. Control 2 and 3 were really amazing, being situated in the middle of some...

After one week of sunshine at WOC, it looks like one week of raining at CISM. Still in Norway, this time in Kongsberg, I was running CISM short distance yesterday. Except of a not so good beginning, it went quite well, losing three minutes to the winner Thierry Gueorgiou.
The area around and before the second control led to some confusion on my side and conseqeuently I lost one minute. I enjoyed the terrain in the butterfly, changing between marshes, light green and open white forests.

Good beginning – bad ending
This would represent my whole world champs week. The sprint at the beginning was satisfying, I ended up on place 22 after a technically good race.
In the long distance qualification I had a good start, no problems at the early controls, but the longer the race got, the more I lost. Consequently, I missed the final, a big disappointment.
On the last WOC day, our relay team had the goal to be in the top 15, at least it was my goal and it would have been possible...

One day after the long distance qualification my disappointment continues about the missed final, particularly because my race was technically not that bad. Althoguth, after a more detailed analysis, I have to say that I didn't chose the best route choices or had a bad implementation of my plans. I finished up on place 19, about two minutes behind place 15, and unbelievable 10 minutes behind the heat's winner Francois Gonon.
What happened in detail during my race:
I had a good start, no...

The qualification race in WOC sprint was my first competition since 5 weeks, so I didn't really know in which shape I would be after my injury. Anyway, I had a good feeling ahead of the race, but was already quite unsecure in my route choice to the second control. This continiued throughout the whole course and I was always to far behind in my orienteering as I wanted to be. In the finish, it was a nervous waiting for the final results. Firstly, I got disappointed when I was not announced in...

Finally, I managed to run again in the forest without any pain. One month after the injury with a torn ligament, I dared to run in the forest. I was very happy with the result, as there was no pain any more. It was an important test for me ahead of WOC, to know that my ankle is stable again. After the injury I had two weeks without any running training and now I'm in my third running week since then. But, after every intensity training, I can feel, that my muscles preferred to relieve than to...

...nothing. sitting at home and keeping my ankle up on the table. Well, that's what I will be doing this week after twisting my ankle in Austria's Long distance Championship in Tyrol last sunday. The competition was organised in a newly mapped terrain, a very demanding terrain, both, physically and technically. The ground surface in the stony and hilly area of the first butterfly was everything but nice. So many little and bigger holes hidden by the ground vegetation made it quite...

Second stage of Nordic Orienteering Tour was hold in Stockholm, with the qualification and quarter final in the university park and semi-final and final in the old town. Prior to the competition, my goal was to reach the quarter final, which ment to be in the top 30. Concerning the strong starter field, not easy reach.
In the qualification race I got the right speed from the beginning, taking enough time to read the map carefully in the more difficult areas. I didn't have serious troubles...

Jukola 2010 est passé. I was running the last leg in my team Helsingin Suunnistajat1. I think our club had something about 20 teams :)
I looked forward to an challenging competition and the forest kept what it promised. I had a good beginning, but getting a little bit lost the first time to control 5. Some bigger mistakes happened to control 11 and 21. Twice a parallel mistake. We ended up at place 64, some places better than last year, but still not satisfying.
Tomorrow, I'll try to get as far...
